Eye viewing device comprising eyepiece and video capture optics

Eye vision device (10) comprising: a housing (44) having one end observer and patient end; an illumination system at least partially disposed in said housing; a system for imaging at least partially disposed in said housing; an image sensor (52) for generating image signals; at least one replaceable module (50, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76, 77) comprising said image sensor (52) for replacing an eyepiece module (46) having an eyeglass lens; a system processor (54) to process information corresponding to the image signals generated by said image sensor image; a component of the communications link to facilitate communication of image information externally of said housing (44); a support module (60, 61, 62, 66) defined by said housing (44) at said patient end; and said replaceable module (50, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76, 77) comprising at least said image sensor (52) received in replaceably on said support, wherein said housing (44) and said module include a connector complementary coupling (85) which are adapted to mate when said module received in said support, characterized in that said device includes a power supply battery incorporated in said housing (44), wherein said mating connectors (85) provide communication is interruptible between an electronic component of said module and said power supply.
