Method and apparatus for collecting and displaying network device information

A monitoring system network (102, 202), comprising: at least one definition file device (104; 210), comprising the definition file query instructions associated with a network device (108) device, and object identifiers, OID, of interest associated with said query instructions, wherein said object identifiers of interest have been parsed from a management information base, MIB, associated with said network device; a communications interface simple network management protocol (212) configured to access said network device using said query instructions and to receive response data from said network device; and data access interface (214) configured to provide external access to said response data.
