Application of a flame retardant and mold inhibitor penetrant composition to porous interior building material surfaces

Abstract

Composition for application to a material comprising: (a) at least one inorganic alkali metal salt, wherein the inorganic alkali metal salt is present in the composition in an amount between 5% and 45% in weight; (B) at least one potassium salt of an organic acid, wherein the potassium salt of an organic acid is present in the composition in an amount between 5% and 50% by weight; and (c) an aqueous liquid, wherein the aqueous liquid is present in the composition in an amount which brings the percentage by weight of the composition to 100%; wherein the composition has a pH of between 7.1 and 14, and wherein the composition, when applied to the material when the material is exposed below the fire, reduces the amount of burning that occurs in the material , or the amount or density of smoke produced by the material, characterized in that said composition further comprises: (d) at least one inhibitor compound microbes, wherein the inhibitor compound microbe is present in the composition in an amount ranging from 0.1% and 6% by weight; (E) at least one boron-containing compound, wherein the boron-containing compound is present in the composition in an amount between 0.1% and 10% by weight; (F) at least one surfactant, wherein the surfactant is present in the composition in an amount between 0.1% and 5% by weight; wherein the inorganic alkali metal salt contains at least one carbon and does not include sodium chloride or potassium chloride, and wherein when the composition is applied to a material before, during or after the material being exposed to conditions favorable for the growth of microbes, it reduces or inhibits the growth of microbes on the material when the material is exposed to conditions favorable to the growth of microbes.
