Radio frequency identification tags for use on metal or other conductive objects

In one embodiment, the radio frequency identification tag includes: a substrate including a first major surface and a second opposite major surface at the first main surface, a radio frequency identification antenna attached to the first major surface of the substrate, an integrated connected to the antenna circuit and a first composite layer comprising binder and a plurality of dispersed multilayered flakes in the binder, the multilayered flakes comprising two to about 100 layer pairs, each pair of layers comprising a crystalline layer of ferromagnetic metal adjacent a dielectric layer, and the layer pairs form a stack of alternating ferromagnetic metal layers with dielectric layers.
