Apparatus and associated method for faciliating network selection by a roaming mobile node

A method in a mobile node (12) for selecting a network (14) to register therein a roaming mobile node (12), so that the network is capable of communication packet data with the mobile node (12 ), so that the method comprising: storing a preferred roaming list in storage element (32) comprising a module Subscriber Identity, so that the preferred list (34) for roaming call list a plurality of networks preferred, together with associated communication capabilities of packet data, each of the plurality of preferred networks; identifying networks (14) available at that time; determine communication capabilities associated data of each of the networks (84) available at that time packets; compare the available networks capable at that time of communication packet data, against the preferred roaming list; if one of the currently available and capable of communication of packet data networks is coincident with one of the plurality of preferred networks capable of communication packet data of the preferred roaming list, receiving a selection of the matching network from the preferred list (34) for roaming call, after which the mobile node (12) registers itself on the selected network; and if there is no match, receive a selection of that network currently available, capable of communication packet data, not listed on the preferred roaming list, after which the mobile node registers itself on the selected network.
