Method and system for maintaining consistency of a cache memory by multiple independent processes

Abstract

METHOD TO PRESERVE COHERENCE OF AT LEAST ONE MEMORY CACHE accessible SYSTEM, COMPUTER readable medium. It is disclosed a method and a system to preserve the consistency of a cache memory, accessible by multiple independent processes. Processes can share common data. The processes perform simultaneous data search operations, followed optionally by a provision of data to process, a removal of these or an insertion of new data. Search operations, removal and insertion to thoroughly perform once initiated by independent processes. They execute solely one another when they must operate on shared data. Each insertion or removal operations is completely reversible. Within this framework, the invention provides that the provision of operations, removal or insertion of data has a finite or limited duration of execution to prevent any blockage. More precisely, the insertion operation includes a release step of an entry when a cache memory partition is full, if it needs to examine the entire partition to operate a choice is, however, possibly interrupted if a maximum is reached exam. In this case, the entry is released the most appropriate among the entries already examined. The inputs of said partition are examined thoroughly, which is made up memorizing the last consulted address of the partition after each release.
