Method of manufacturing a heart valve prosthes

Abstract

A method of making a cardiac valve prosthesis which includes a substantially cylindrical structure defining an axis substantially parallel blood flow to the flow of blood through the valve prosthesis and at least two Flexible leaflets attached to the frame, the method comprising: forming at least two scalloped edge portions on the structure, while the shape of each scalloped edge portion defined by the intersection of an inclined structure with respect to the axis of blood flow plane; treating the structure to increase its surface energy to above 64 mN / m; provide training element having at least two leaflet forming surfaces; coupling the formation of the structure; applying a coating on the structure and engaged forming element, joining the cover to the structure, forming the coating on the surfaces leaflet forming the at least two flexible leaflets, at least two leaflets being configured to be movable while the from a position open to a closed, having the at least two leaflets side blood inlet and an outlet side blood, at least two leaflets being in the closed position when fluid pressure is applied to the outlet side, being in the position open when fluid pressure is applied to the inlet side and being in a neutral position intermediate the open and closed position in the absence of fluid pressure applied to the leaflets, each leaflet a fixed edge joined to a part of respective scalloped edge structure and extending a free edge substantially between the tips of two posts, including at least two leaflets a first leaflet having a surface contour such that when the first leaflet is in the neutral position an intersection of the first leaflet with at least one plane perpendicular to the blood flow axis forms a first composite wave, the first wave being composed substantially defined by a first wave combined with at least a second superimposed wave, the first wave having a first frequency, the second wave having one second frequency, the first frequency different frequency to the second, the first wave comprising a circular arc, wherein an included angle between the free edges of the leaflets in the valve commissures is in the range of 10 ° to 55 °; and disengaging the forming element structure.
