Method of establishing virtual connections for transmission of packets of internal traffic in a switch broadband telecommunications, comprising: a switching fabric having a plurality of indexed ports, switching the switching fabric package internal traffic applied to an inlet port to the outlet port on the package, a plurality of processing units, unit operations and maintenance comprising an application to communicate with the processing units, a plurality of multiplexers, connected each to their own input port of the switching fabric and multiplexing packets of internal traffic to said input port, packets arrive internal traffic from a group of processor units connected to the multiplexer, characterized by comprising the steps of: generating, in each multiplexer, packets probe directed to each indexed port of the switching fabric containing said probe packet index port, send probe packets to the switching fabric, receiving probe packets from the switching fabric conclude that the multiplexer has been connected to indexed port network switching whose index is indicated in the received cells, establish virtual connections between each of the multiplexers and operations and maintenance unit connection identifiers linking with rates ports.
