Rod to rod connector

A cross connector (10) to connect rigidly together first and second spinal rods (12) comprising: a cross-connecting member (14); a first clamping assembly (16, 18, 70) to lock rigidly said cross connecting member (14) to a first spinal rod (12), said first clamping assembly (16, 18, 70): a first body clamping (16; 18) including a channel (44) for receiving said transverse connecting member (14) and a hole (42) crosswise to said channel (44); a screw (22); a second body holder (70) including a hole (74) to accept said screw (22), a channel (72) for receiving said first spinal rod (12), and a second clamping assembly (16, 18, 70 ) for rigidly fixing said cross connecting member (14) to a second spinal rod (12); wherein said holes (42, 74) in said first and second clamp bodies (16, 70) are coaxial so that said screw (22) can be advanced through said holes (42, 74) for joining together said first and second clamp bodies (16, 70), wherein the second clamping body also includes a pivot pin (75) and a lever member (76) coupled to said second clamping body (70) by said pin pivot (75), that he said lever member (76) comprises first and second longitudinal ends (78, 80), that said first end (78) is located to be rotated about said pivot pin (75) by advancing said screw (22) in said hole (74), and that said second end is positioned to bear against said rod (12) and hold said stem (12) within said channel (72) when said lever member (76 ) it is rotated by said screw (22).
