Hardware-enforced loop-level hard zoning for fibre channel switch fabric

Abstract

The zoning provides hardware enhancements to the Fibre Channel switch to protect against infringement of the zone that is assigned in the network switches that can occur with software-based zoning technology. The present invention is a frame Fibre Channel fabric (Fibre Channel fabric) on entry to point and frame the fabric, leaving time both in the frame of a source ID (Source ID; S_ID) hardware-based check done it for logic to provide it. S_ID is validated and compared include (inclusion) list or table of free S_ID, it may be unique to each fabric port. The present invention, by implementing wild cards, on the basis of the table includes for each entry (entry-by-entry basis) provides a way to increase the range of the source it can be expressed. If the S_ID is valid, it is entering the normal fabric, and will be routed. If invalid, the frame is not routed, it will be processed by the fabric according to FC rules. This prevents inaccuracies in the time of passing through the frame S_ID fabric infringing table driven zoning and prevents unauthorized access to the devices connected to the switch network (unauthorized access).
