Method and system for generating electrical energy within a vehicle tyre

Abstract

A method for generating electric power within a tire, system for generating electric power, and system for monitoring at least one parameter of operation of a tire. A tire comprises a bias piezoelectric (313) associated with an energy storage device (e.g., a capacitor). The bending piezoelectric element is mounted in a balance in a housing (311) so as to be positioned substantially along a plane perpendicular to a radial direction (e) of the tire, so that a first end (315) of the piezoelectric element is restricted Accommodation. A loading mass 312 is coupled to the second end 316 of the bending piezoelectric element. A small gap 314 is formed between the inner walls of the housing and the outer surface of the loading mass, In order to allow limited flexing of the piezoelectric element. The housing including the piezoelectric element is mounted on a tire portion in correspondence with a tread area of the tire, preferably on the inner surface of the tire. The piezoelectric element charges under the action of radial acceleration when the tire rotates. The loading mass and the clearance are chosen to obtain: a) small oscillations of the piezoelectric element substantially during a complete revolution of the tire, when the tire is at a low speed; B) large oscillations of the piezoelectric element substantially during only the passage of the tire part which includes the piezoelectric element in the contact piece. Sufficient electrical energy is obtained to energize an electronic device included in the tire,
