Arrangement for printing an image having areas of different imaging resolution

An arrangement for printing a print image with regions of different print image resolution in a mail processing apparatus includes a read only memory (9), a pixel memory (7), a microprocessor (6) and a print data controller (4) to the pixel data editing during printing with a printhead. The microprocessor (6) is programmed using data from the fixed value memory (9) a number of data strings with a switchable number of data words, to generate and store in the pixel memory (7), wherein a maximum number of data words per data string is reached, when the pixel data are stored in compressed. The print data control (4) consists of a pixel data preparation unit (41, 42), a DMA controller (43), an address generator (44) and a printer controller (45), which are equipped with means for decompressing the compressed pixel data per data string and thereby missing due to the compression of pixel data to be replaced so that the reduction in the number of data words per data string of reducing the resolution when printing corresponds. The print data controller (4) is at least one parameter (PA) for controlling the resolution via BUS (5) supplied and the print data controller (4) is designed to switch the achievable printing resolution.
