Surface treatment process for implants made of titanium alloy

Abstract

According to the invention the titanium 6Al / 4V alloy is provided with a surface topography similar to the Osseotite (R) formed on the surface of commercial pure titanium. After the native oxide is removed from the Ti 6Al / 4V alloy is contacted with a liquid containing a relatively small amount of a hydrochloric acid aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid at ambient temperature to the exposed metal.
