An implantable prosthesis (20) for a defect in tissue or muscle, the implantable prosthesis comprising at least two layers (22a, 22b, 36) of material wherein at least a portion of at least one of the at least two layers permits formation of adhesions with tissue or muscle, including at least one of the at least two layers a peripheral edge (24), an outer area (26) disposed within the entire peripheral edge (24) and an internal area (28) disposed inside the outer area (26), at least one pocket (32, 60), a first reinforcing member (50) engaging at least one of the at least two layers and in or surrounding the outer area (26) or holding between two of the at least two layers and in or surrounding the outer area (26), constructed and arranged the first reinforcing member (50) to reinforce at least the outer area (26) and a second reinforcing member (52 ) spaced within the first reinforcing member (50), coupling the second reinforcing member (52) at least one of the at least two layers or between two of holding at least two layers.
