Inductively rechargeable external energy source, charger, system and method for an implantable medical device

An external power source (48) for an implantable medical device (16) having a set of therapeutic components (28) and a secondary coil (34) operatively coupled to said set of therapeutic components (28), comprising: a coil primary charge (54) capable of transcutaneously inductively energizing said secondary coil (34) when placed externally near said secondary coil (34); activation circuitry (50) operatively coupled to said primary charging coil (54) for exciting said primary charging coil (54); rechargeable power source (160) operably coupled to said trigger circuitry (50); secondary recharging coil (168) operatively coupled to said rechargeable power source (160); and a coil primary recharging (167) adapted to be coupled to a source of AC power which when placed near said coil secondary recharging (168) can inductively energize said coil secondary recharging (168) in order to charging said rechargeable power source (160).
