Vascular filter system
Abstract
Vascular filter system removable percutaneous for blocking emboli existing within a vessel while permitting the continued perfusion of blood, comprising: a guidewire (362) with distal and proximal ends, a filter comprising a) a membrane (366 ) of nonmetallic porous filter having a distal portion and a proximal end portion free, wherein the pore size of the membrane (366) of porous filter ranges between about 20 and about 300 microns, and b) a support structure (368) of the filter membrane extending from the flexible distal portion of the filter membrane to the flexible proximal portion of the filter membrane, wherein said distal portion of the filter membrane is pivotally attached to wire guide (362) near said distal end of the guidewire (362) and wherein the proximal end portion free filter membrane is substantially parallel to the guidewire (362) in its collapsed state; and display means operatively connected to the filter to cause the proximal free end portion of the filter membrane to move from a position substantially parallel to the guidewire (362) to a retracted position of the longitudinal axis of the guidewire (362 ) to cause the flexible filter membrane (366) take a substantially conical shape, and to form a sealing relationship with generically said vessel wall; characterized by: an infusion catheter (360) having a proximal end and a distal end, and at least one infusion hole (370) to cause the medication to be administered to a site, said infusion catheter (360) being coaxially disposed around said guidewire (362) and said at least one infusion hole located proximal to said filter direction; and a sheath (390) having a proximal end and a distal end, disposed around I dedicho infusion catheter (360), wherein said sheath (390) may be moved distally and proximally along said catheter infusion (360) thereby covering or opening said at least one infusion hole (370).
