The invention relates to the use of a resin system for the production of a liquid dental filling material.
It is known from German Offenlegungsschrift 2126419 that dental filling compositions can be obtained by mixing an inert, inorganic finely divided filler with a binder which consists of a branched adduct of an organic diisocyanate with 2,2-propane bis [3- (4- phenoxy) -l, 2-hydroxypropane-l-methaerylate] and that these compositions can be cured in the presence of a catalyst by the action of UV rays. It is also from the franz. Patent No. 1,373,978 discloses that a urethane prepolymer having free isocyanate groups can be used to seal the walls of a
To cover tooth cavity, wherein a lining for receiving a dental filling is formed.
It has now been found that a resin system which is generally known from German Offenlegungsschrift
2200669 which is derived from a linear vinylurethane derived from a urethane prepolymer and an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer reactive with said urethane prepolymer, together with a liquid ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, can be used to prepare a dentifrice which is cured provides a filler with excellent mechanical properties.
The invention now relates to the use of a polymerizable material which consists of a) a polymerizable prepolymer of the general formula

stands; and n is an integer of 1 to 3; and b) a liquid, ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is copolymerizable with the polymerizable prepolymer, together with an inert organic filler of which at least 50% of the particles have a maximum dimension of at most 1000 microns, for producing a liquid dental filling material.
By liquid mass is meant a mass which is sufficiently mobile so that it can easily be molded at ambient temperature, for example by hand only. The mass advantageously has pasty consistency.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the polymerizable material is used together with a catalyst which is capable of effecting the polymerization of the polymerizable material.
The dental material may be applied to the tooth, for example into a cavity in the tooth, and the polymerizable material may be polymerized such that a hard filling is formed from the mass. This polymerization will hereinafter be referred to as hardening of the mass.
The polymerizable prepolymer of the general formula (I) can be obtained by reacting a diisocyanate of the general formula
OCN-R-NCO with a diol of the general formula
No. 338436
- 3 HO-R -OH, wherein a urethane prepolymer of the general formula
OCN fR1NH.CO, OR2.O.COiNH) R ^1.NCO arises.
For the urethane prepolymer to have isocyanate end groups, a molar excess of diisocyanate over the diol must be used in the preparation of the prepolymer, the value n in the prepolymer depending on the molar ratio of diisocyanate to diol used and decreasing as n increases.
The formation of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer can be achieved by using known catalysts for polyurethane production, e.g. As tertiary amines and metal salts, such as tin (II) octoate and dibutyltin dilaurate in particular, be supported.
The reaction of the diol and diisocyanate can lead to a viscous urethane prepolymer, and the
In particular, when n is a large number, prepolymers may be solid; Under these circumstances, it is beneficial if the reaction of the diol and diisocyanate in the presence of an inert diluent is passed through. Similarly, the reaction of the urethane prepolymer, if it is very viscous or solid, with the ethylenically unsaturated isocyanate-reactive group-containing monomers to the polymerizable prepolymer is advantageously carried out in the presence of an inert diluent. The diluent should be substantially free of isocyanate-reactive groups, at least to such an extent that the diluent does not interfere with the formation of the prepolymer.
The diluent may be the liquid ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the prepolymer.
When the polymerizable prepolymer of general formula (I) is prepared in an inert diluent, the prepolymer may be removed from the diluent e.g. By diluting the diluent or by adding a non-solvent for the polymerizable prepolymer to the diluent.
Since the value n is at most 3, the molar ratio of the isocyanate groups in the diisocyanate to the hydroxyl groups in the diol from which the urethane prepolymer is prepared should be 1.33: 1 or more.
A particularly suitable substituent Rt is an aromatic, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group, and the corresponding diisocyanates can be used to prepare the urethane prepolymer.
Cycloaliphatisehe diisocyanates correspond z. B. the general formula
OCN NCO in which -Y- is a bivalent member, for example -CH2- or a substituted derivative thereof, -O-, 35 -SO2-, - CO-, and the isocyanate groups in meta or para position to the groups Y are bonded. A specific example is 4,4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate.
Suitable aromatic diisocyanates include, for example, 2,4- or 2,6-tolylene diisocyanates or mixtures thereof, in which case the divalent group Ηχ the formula c> / or \ _ / \ = /
CH or a combination of these formulas. Another suitable aromatic diisocyanate corresponds to the general formula
OCN- (CH) - * in (CH) -NCO lm
Nr.338436
- 4 in which m is an integer such that preferably at most 30 atoms between cyclic
Groups are present in the urethane prepolymers derived therefrom. A suitable diisocyanate of the latter formula is xylylene diisocyanate.
A particularly advantageous aromatic diisocyanate corresponds to the general formula
OCN NCO \ = / \ = / in which Y represents a bivalent member of the meaning given above and in which the isocyanate groups are bonded in the meta or para position to the group Y. A preferred example is 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane.
Diisocyanates containing no cyclic groups can be used for the preparation of the urethane prepolymers. Suitable such diisocyanates are, for. Tetramethylene diisocyanate, pentamethylene diisocyanate and hexamethylene diisocyanate, in which case the divalent group has the formula _ (CH2)4-, - (CH2)5 - or - (¾hat.
A particularly suitable substituent R is the group in which one of the substituents R, and R for 2 4 5
Hydrogen and the other is methyl and Ar is the structure:
CH ./ v \ = / I \ = /
That is a condensation product of 2,2-bis (p-hydroxyphenyl) propane and propylene oxide.
Particularly suitable substituents R and R are each hydrogen atoms, and a particularly suitable Subs substituent R is t methyl.
At least 50% of the filler particles must have a maximum dimension of at most 1000 microns. That is, the largest dimension of the particles in each direction is at most 1000 microns. Therefore, if the filler is in the form of beads, at least 50% of the beads must have a diameter of at most 1000 microns. If the filler is ferrule-shaped, the length of at least 50% of the fibers must be at most 1000 microns. Preferably, substantially all particles in the
Filler has a largest dimension of at most 1000 microns,
Mixing of the filler with the polymerizable prepolymer generally becomes easier with decreasing size of the filler particles. The preferred maximum dimension of the filler particles is determined by the shape of the filler. When the filler is fibrous, the maximum dimension of the fibers is preferably at most 500 microns, more preferably at most 100 microns. If it is present against the filler in the form of beads or platelets or irregularly shaped, the largest dimension is preferably at most 300 microns; particularly preferred is a range of 1 to 100 microns.
In order to be able to produce a hard tooth filling by hardening the mass, it is preferred that the filler particles have a Knoop hardness of at least 100. In general, the greater the hardness of the filler particles, the greater the hardness of the tooth filling produced by curing the mass, and therefore the Knoop hardness of the filler should preferably be at least 300, and more preferably at least 500. Inorganic fillers generally have the desired hardness and in particular the preferred hardness.
In order for the dental filling made by curing the dental filling material to have the appearance of a natural tooth, it is preferred to use a translucent filler.
The tooth filling compound should contain 60 to 90% by weight, preferably 60 to 80% by weight of the filler; Mixtures of different fillers can be used.
The filler may, for example, be in the form of beads, platelets, fibers or whiskers, or may be irregular in shape. Suitable fillers are, for example, apatite, soda glass, quartz, silica gel, borosilicate glass or synthetic sapphire (aluminum oxide).
The mixing of the polymerizable prepolymer with the filler to produce the dental filling compound can be carried out by stirring the prepolymer together with the filler. Since the polymerizable prepolymer, optionally together with a copolymerisierbaren monomers, viscous and therefore
No.338436 can be poorly miscible with the filler, the polymerizable prepolymer, optionally together with the copolymerizable monomer, can advantageously be diluted with a suitable diluent so that viscosity is reduced and corresponding mixing of the filler is more easily achieved. After mixing, the diluent can be removed, eg Advantageously, the diluent is a copolymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated monomer which, if desired, is completely removed after mixing or, if the dentifrice is to contain a copolymerisable, ethylenically unsaturated monomer (subsequently reduced to the desired level
To prepare a dental filling composition in which the filler adheres particularly well to the cured polymerizable prepolymer in the filling, it is particularly preferred that the filler be mixed with a coupling agent capable of reacting with both the filler and the polymerizable prepolymer prior to mixing of the filler is treated with the polymerizable prepolymer. The coupling agent is intended to enhance the bond between the filler and the cured polymerizable prepolymer in the filling. As coupling agents, using glass silanes, for example, γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, γ-aminopropyltriaxysilane and γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane can be used.
As already mentioned, the polymerizable material may contain a liquid, ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the polymerizable prepolymer.
The amount of these ethylenically unsaturated monomers used should just be sufficient to ensure the desired flowability of the dental filling. Since the use of such a monomer can lead to a reduction in the strength of a filling made from the mass, it is preferable to use in the filler at most 100% by weight of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer, based on the polymerizable prepolymer.
Suitable liquid, copolymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated monomers whose polymers are said to be water-insoluble are vinyl monomers, e.g. As vinyl esters and acrylic and Methaciylsäuren. The monomers should be non-toxic.
Suitable vinyl esters are, for. As vinyl acetate, acrylic acid ester of the general formula
CH = CH - COOR
8th where Rs represents an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group. R8th may be, for example, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 and preferably 1 to 10 carbon atoms. Particularly to be mentioned vinyl esters are, for example, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n- and Isopropylaciylate and n-, iso- and tert. Butyl acrylates.
Other suitable vinyl esters are, for example, esters of the general formula CH2 = C (RG) COORs in which R can be an alkyl group, for example a methyl group. In the ester of the general formula CH2 = C (RG) COOR8th can R and RG be the same or different. Particularly to be mentioned vinyl esters are, for. As methyl methyl acrylate, Äthylmethaciylat, n- and Isopropylmethaciylat and n-, iso- and tert. Butylmethaciylat.
Mixtures of acids and esters can be used.
Polyfunctional vinyl monomers, that is, two or more vinyl group-containing monomers, are also useful. Suitable monomers are, for example, glycol dimethacylate, diallyl phthalate and triallyl cyanurate.
The dental filling material obtainable in accordance with the present invention may be brought into the desired shape of the dental filling and then hardened to a hard filling by polymerizing the polymerizable prepolymer with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith.
The hardening of the mass to the tooth filling can be supported by a catalyst. The catalyst is said to advantageously cure the mass at a relatively low temperature, e.g. At or near ambient temperature, as the application of elevated temperature can cause inconvenience to the patient being treated. Suitable catalysts which cause the curing at a relatively low temperature are, for example a mixture of a peroxide and an accelerator, for example a peroxide and an amine, such as a mixture of benzoyl peroxide and Ν, Ν-dimethyl-p-toluene. Other catalysts include, for example, a mixture of a peroxide and a cobalt accelerator, e.g. As a Mi50 tion of Methyläthylketonperoxyd and Kobaltoctoat, cobalt naphthenate or cobalt naphthenate and dimethylaniline.
When employing a catalyst for curing the composition at a relatively low temperature, it is advantageous to mix the catalyst with the dental composition just prior to its application
No.338436 otherwise, an undesirable amount of hardening of the mass may occur prior to its deformation into the desired dental material.
The amount of the catalyst is in the range of 0.01 to 20 wt. Based on the polymerizable material in the dental composition, ie, 0.01 to 20 wt.% Catalyst based on the polymerizable prepolymer plus copolymerizable monomer. If desired, smaller or larger amounts of catalyst can be used; However, from 0.1 to 10% by weight of catalyst is preferred. In particular, the use of 0.5 to 5% by weight of catalyst is preferred.
The catalyst used may be radiation-activatable, and according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a dental composition described above contains a photosensitive catalyst comprising
a) at least one photosensitizer selected from fluorenone, substituted derivatives thereof, and a-diketones of the general formula
ACCA II II oo in which the groups A, which may be identical or different, represent hydrocarbon groups or substituted hydrocarbon groups, and
b) at least one reducing agent which is capable of reducing the photosensitizer when it is in an excited state.
The dental compositions which can be obtained according to the invention and contain a photosensitive catalyst can be cured by UV irradiation, ie by radiation having a wavelength in the range from about 230 to 400 mp. The masses can also be cured by irradiation with visible light, and in particular with visible light of a wavelength in the range of 400 to 500 mp. But it can also be applied visibly and UV-Lieht together.
In the a-diketone of the general formula given above, the groups A, when representing hydrocarbon groups, may be aliphatic, for example alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms; aromatic, for example phenyl; cycloaliphatic, e.g. Cyelohexyl; Aralkyl, e.g. Benzyl; or alkaryl, e.g. Tolyl;
his.
However, the groups A can also together form a bivalent radical, so that the GruppenA form a ring structure together with the Carbony lgruppen in the photosensitizer. For example, the groups A may form a divalent aliphatic group, or they may form an aromatic group and especially a fused aromatic ring system.
Suitable cu-diketones are, for example

When the groups A are substituted hydrocarbon groups, the substituent group (s) should not lead to a substantial impediment to the polymerization of the polymerizable material. Examples of photosensitizers in which the groups A are substituted hydrocarbon groups are p, p'-dimethoxybenzyl and p, p'-dichlorobenzyl.
A particularly preferred photosensitizer is benzyl.
The photosensitizer can be present in the dental composition in a concentration of, for example, from 0.01 to 10% by weight, based on the polymerizable material in the bulk; however, concentrations outside this range can also be used. Preferably, the photosensitizer is present in a concentration in the range of 0.5 to 5 wt%, based on the polymerizable material in the bulk.
The reducing agent present in the light-sensitive catalyst should be able to reduce the photosensitizer when it is in an excited state. The reducing agent should have little or no inhibiting effect on the polymerization. Whether a reducing agent has an inhibitory effect or not can be determined by a simple experiment, for example, by polymerizing the polymerization of the polymerizable material in bulk by means of a thermal initiator alone and in the presence of a reducing agent in the desired concentration and the polymerization rates in the presence and absence of the Reducing agent are compared.
Suitable reducing agents are, for example, compounds of the general formula

The invention is further illustrated by the following examples. All parts are parts by weight.
Example 1: 352 parts of a condensate obtained by reacting 2,2-bis (p-hydroxyphenyl) propane and propylene oxide in a molar ratio of 1: 2 are heated until the condensate melts, stirred under reduced pressure to add the condensate degas.
500 Parts of 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane are similarly heated, stirred and degassed separately. The condensate and diisocyanate (diisocyanate: condensate = 2: 1 molar ratio) are then mixed together, and 556 parts of calcium hydride-dried methyl methacrylate and then 0.14 part of dibulyltin dilaurate are added to the mixture. The mixture is cooled in an ice bath to control the heat development in urethane prepolymer formation so that the temperature does not rise above 55 ° C.
Stirring is continued until 11/2 h after completion of the heat development.
260 Parts of previously distilled and degassed 2- (hydroxyethyl) methacrylate are then added and the resulting mixture is stirred for 11/2 hours; The result is the ethylenically unsaturated, polymerizable prepolymer.
60 Parts of the polymerizable prepolymer and methyl methacrylate mixture prepared above are blended with 180 parts of glass beads (Ballatini 3000 CP01, Plastichem Ltd,) of which 80% by weight have a diameter between 4 and 44 microns.
The mixture is then stirred, additional methyl methacrylate is added to facilitate mixing, and then 6 parts of a catalyst solution prepared by dissolving 2 parts of benzyl in 4 parts of dimethylaminoethyl 25-methacrylate and 4 parts of methyl methacrylate are added. It is stirred for 15 minutes and then the pressure is reduced and the methyl methacrylate added to aid mixing is evaporated.
The pasty mass is filled into a cylindrical glass mold and exposed to blue light for curing for 15 minutes.

Example 4: 500 g of freshly distilled 4,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane are added at 300 cm. Methylene chloride in a 5 l-necked flask, which is blown with nitrogen to rden, washed. The flask is then fitted with a glass anchor stirrer, nitrogen inlet, water condenser and thermometer.
352 g of a molten condensate obtained by condensation of 2,2-bis (p-hydroxydiphenol) -propane and propylene oxide and 0.15 g of dibutyltin dilaurate are weighed into a 1 liter dropping funnel which has been bubbled with nitrogen. The dropping funnel is 200 cm3, Added methylene chloride to prevent stagnation of the condensate.
The dropping funnel is then placed over the piston and the contents are delivered to the piston during
45 added dropwise, after which the reaction is allowed to proceed for about 45 minutes; then 300 g of hydroxyethyl methacrylate are added along with 0.25 g of dibuyltin dilaurate over 3 minutes. The temperature of the contents of the flask increases, and as this decreases, the flask is heated on a water bath (under reflux of methylene chloride) and the contents are stirred under a stream of nitrogen until the infrared spectrum of the resulting product shows only a trace of isocyanate groups present (approx days).
The water bath is then removed and methanol is added to the stirred flask contents to effect separation of the polymerizable polymer. The flask contents are allowed to settle and then the methanol layer is aspirated and discarded. The washing with methanol is repeated several times until a clear methanol layer is obtained. The polymerizable prepolymer in the flask is then dried at room temperature under vacuum until a dry foam is formed. The foam is crushed and dried to remove traces of methanol.
In the absence of blue light, 13.37 parts of the polymerizable prepolymer powder are dissolved in 10.94 parts of ethylene glycol dimethacylate, and 0.625 parts of dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate and then 0.0625 parts of camphorquinone are added to the solution. 75 parts of a borosilicate glass powder with a particle size of <53 microns, with 1 wt. % gamma-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane is coated are stirred into the mixture, and the resulting liquid paste passes through a roll mill, where it is degassed.
Cylindrical samples of the paste, 3 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm in length, in polytetrafluoroethylene molds are irradiated for 2 minutes with light using a light source equipped with a 45.72 cm fiber optic. The cured samples are removed from the molds, stored under water at 45 37 ° C and examined after 1 h, 24 h or 1 week. The results are given in the table below.

The handling properties of the compositions A and B are also compared. The polymerizable prepolymer in the mass A is a viscous gum, while that in the mixture B is a solid. Therefore, the mass A, which contains 75% by weight of filler, is less viscous and easier to handle than the mass B. On the other hand, the mass A is better suited than the mass B, up to 80% by weight. -% or more to be filled with the filler, wherein the increased content of filler causes better abrasion resistance and greater hardness of the fillings produced from these masses.
Example 25: 52.4 g (0.2 mol) of 4,4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate are taken together with 30 cm3 dry methylene chloride under nitrogen in a flask. 35.2 g (0.1 mol) of oxypropylated bisphenol A are dissolved in 50 cm dry methylene chloride and the solution is washed with aliquots of each ß
cm of dry methylene chloride in a dropping funnel. 10 drops of dibutyltin dilaurate are added to the solution in the dropping funnel.
The mixture in the flask is heated until the methylene chloride is gently refluxed, after which the solution is added dropwise from the dropper within 1 hour with stirring. Stirring is continued for about 11/2 hours, after which 26 g (0.2 mol) of hydroxyethyl methacrylate and 10 drops of dibutyltin dilaurate are added through the dropping funnel within 15 minutes. The mixture is stirred for a further 3 hours and then allowed to stand for about 70 hours. Infrared spectral analysis of the mixture shows residual traces of isocyanate and the mixture is allowed to stand for an additional 48 hours. The resulting polymerizable prepolymer is isolated as a solid after the mixture is treated with petroleum ether and the residual solvent removed on a rotary evaporator.
From this solid prepolymer, as described, a dental filling compound with the residual composition described in Example 24 is produced. The samples were also cured according to Example 24.
The prepolymer paste has good flow properties and the cured material is very translucent. The cure depth achieved in 1 minute is 6.1 mm, and the cured material has a compressive strength (average) of 264.2 N / mm after immersion in water at 37 ° C for 24 hours (Example 24)2 and a tensile strength (average) of 41.7 N / mm2,
No. 33 843 6
Example 26: A dental filler is prepared and cured as in Example 25 except that 34.8 g (0.2 mole) of 2,4-toluene diisocyanate is used instead of the dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate. The prepared paste has good flow properties and the cured material is translucent. The depth of cure in 1 minute is 5.5 mm. After immersion in water at 37 ° C for 24 hours, the material has a compressive strength (average) of 290.65 N / mm2 and a tensile strength (average) of 47.6 N / mm2,
