Vascular filter system for cardiopulmonary bypass

A filter system for cardiopulmonary bypass, comprising: a housing (366) having distal and proximal ends and a hole (380) with a connector at the proximal end which is adapted for connection to at least one hose (360) and a distal member at the distal end having first and second (384, 388) openings, wherein the housing (366) has formed within it a first lumen (374) adapted to be in fluid communication with the hose or hoses (360) and extending through the distal member to one of the first and second (384, 388) openings, and a second lumen (378) extending from the hole (380) through the distal member to other of the first and second (384, 388) openings, and a system (394) vascular filter comprising a collapsible filter which can be advanced through the hole (380) of the housing, said system (394) vascular filter comprising (a) a support structure of the filter membrane, and (b) a filter membrane attached to said support structure of the membrane filter, said filter membrane openings, wherein said openings have a diameter in the range of about 20 to about 300 microns and with diameters ranging over each other; characterized in that the first and second openings in the distal member are provided in a common distal surface of the distal member.
