Gastroretentive controlled release pharmaceutical dosage forms

A pharmaceutical delivery system gastroretentive drug, which is foldable or rollable, for the controlled release of an active agent in the gastrointestinal tract, which system comprises: a) an array of one or multiple layers having a geometrical configuration in two or three dimensions comprising a polymer which is suitable for not be retained in the fasted stomach for more than 2 hours, said polymer is selected from (1) a degradable polymer selected from: (i) a hydrophilic polymer which is not instantly soluble in gastric fluid (ii) an enteric polymer substantially insoluble at pH less than 5, 5; (Iii) a hydrophobic polymer; and (iv) any mixture of at least two polymers as defined in (i), (ii) or (iii); (2) a non-degradable polymer; and (3) a mixture of at least one polymer as defined in (1) with at least one polymer as defined in (2); (B) a continuous membrane or discontinuous, which is suitable for not be retained in elestómago fasted for more than two hours, affixed or attached to said matrix, said membrane comprising at least one polymer with a Young's modulus of about 100 to 200 Mpa and product resistance (with a deviation of 0.5%) of about 2 to 25 Mpa, all measured using an Instron tester resistance at a crosshead speed of 25 mm / min .; and (c) a drug, which may be in particulate form or optionally contained within a medium containing the drug; said drug or drug contained within said medium containing the drug in a layer of said matrix being embedded, or being entrapped between at least two layers of said matrix, wherein when said array is fixed or attached to said membrane is suitable for impidir evacuation of stomach of said delivery system for a period of time from about 3 to about 24 hours and wherein the system is suitable to be evacuated from the stomach after separation and / or folding of the membrane.
