Closed-loop flow control for iv fluid delivery

A flow control for controlling a fluid flow through a fluid line (12, 18) to achieve a desired rate of infusion of a medical fluid to a patient, including: a flow regulator adapted to be placed within the path fluid (130) for use to vary a flow of a medicinal fluid through the fluid path (130); and a processor (44) coupled to the flow sensor (36) for receiving the signal produced by it, said processor (44) to the flow regulator being coupled to control the flow of a medicinal fluid through the flow regulator in response to signal to achieve the desired infusion rate; characterized by further comprising: a flow sensor (36) adapted to be positioned within a fluid path (130) of a medicinal fluid flowing through a fluid line (12, 18) producing said flow sensor (36 ) indicative of a flow of a medicinal fluid through the fluid path (130) signal; dondeel flow sensor (36) includes: (i) an orifice (128) disposed in the fluid path (130), said orifice (128) a size in cross section that is substantially smaller than the fluid path (130 ), both close and distal to the orifice (128), and (ii) a detector pressure module (30) configured to detect a pressure drop across the orifice (128), producing said pressure sensor signal in response thereto .
