Resource admission control in an access network

A method for delivering on an access network a data stream requiring a particular bandwidth and quality of particular service, the method comprising the step of providing a plurality of virtual circuits able to meet certain requirements of bandwidth and service quality between a plurality of coupled to said access network users, and an access server of the network coupled access to a content provider operable to deliver said data stream, characterized in that after a particular user has requested said data of said content provider, and if that particular user lacks support for negotiating or acknowledge receipt of the bandwidth particularly through said access network with that particular quality of service, said method further comprises the steps : - identify, in a central control unit of said access network, a virtual circuit between said plurality of virtual circuits capable of ensuring that quality of particular service between said particular user and said access server, - check in said central control unit, if the virtual circuit can convey said particular bandwidth, - according to the result of said checking step, allowing said data is delivered over said virtual circuit to said particular user, or not allow that said data is delivered to that particular user.
