Computer-implemented method and apparatus for matching paint

A method implemented by computer for matching paint on a vehicle comprising the steps of: receiving in a central computer, from a remote terminal, identification information of the vehicle related to a specific vehicle and a first set of color data paint from a portion of the vehicle body, comprising the central computer (i) a processor, (ii) electronic storage media in which a database is stored, comprising database identification information of the vehicle to a plurality vehicle data paint color associated with the identification information of the respective vehicle, and paint formulations associated with the color data of the paint (iii) software to implement a first process for determining a first paint formulation more even relating the identification information and vehicle proposed paint data given to a paint formulation; identified through software on the computer a first formulation of the best match paint; transmitting the first best match paint formulation to the remote terminal; receiving in the central computer a second set of paint color data from said remote terminal representing a surface of the specific vehicle painted with the first best match paint formulation; compare for a second process color data of the first data paint color paint to establish data accuracy; and applying the accuracy data to the first process to be executed in subsequent paint formulation identification.
