Demodulation element assignment in a system capable of receiving multiple signals

Method for assigning in a receiver having a plurality of demodulation elements, said plurality of demodulation elements to a set of available signals, comprising the steps of: conducting a survey of said available signals and creating a list of paths probe comprising the arrival time, signal strength and transmission rate of each of said available signals; comparing a list of demodulation paths, comprising the arrival time, signal strength and the index corresponding to signals being demodulated by said receiver to said list of survey paths, and assigning a transmission element unallocated demodulation, if the demodulation element exists not assigned to a particular survey path having a corresponding transmission rate that is different from the rates of transmission of said list of demodulation paths.
