Locating the source of an unknown signal
Abstract
(-- 57) summary -- the method of deciding the position of the strange signal source which transmits a strange signal to an artificial satellite translator includes receiving the signal from a translator with each receiver (18). A receiver (18) receives a reference signal through each translator from a common signal source (22). The strange signal and reference signal which were received by each receiver (18) are processed together so that it may become independent of the signal received in somewhere else and those timing and phase information may be saved. Frequency lowering conversion is carried out, and a signal is digitized and is sent to a common process computer (150). A computer (150) attains the intersection ambiguous function of a reference signal, and determines difference time offset (DTO) and a difference frequency offset (DFO). It attains to the strange signal which had the same thing received, relative DTO reaches, and DFO is determined. When relative time and a frequency shift incorporate the reference signals DTO and DFO, it is introduced between strange signals and it is supposed to the reference signal DFO that the strange signal DFO is able to be determined. A reference signal is used also in order to offset the phase noise of a strange signal, and the influence of a frequency drift. The position of a strange signal source (10) is calculated from the strange signals DTO and DFO.
