Cellular network traffic simulator

A traffic simulator for a cellular radio telecommunications network. The traffic simulator includes a function handler that generates basic multiple functions performed by mobile stations (MS) over an air interface link with the network. A stream handler uses the basic functions to generate multiple call streams, and a traffic mix handler uses the multiple call streams to generate a global traffic mix. An MS handler includes multiple MS state machines for different types of MS and a database of MS properties. The MS handler interfaces with the basic functions to generate realistic inputs to the sequence handler. A cell handler includes a database of network cells and parameters related to radial conditions. The cell handler also interfaces with the basic functions to generate realistic inputs to the sequence handler. A traffic bear depot can inject the actual recorded mobile station traffic into the traffic mix. A connection manager sends the traffic mix to the external components and a graphical user interface (GUI) enables the operator to interface with the traffic simulator and generate the specified traffic scenarios.
